Aloha Forum!!
What an incredible Forum! Hopefully someone here can help us with a question on rejoining a previously split DVD. I've seen alot on joining 2 completely different DVDs, but nothing on rejoining 2 parts of the same previously split DVD.
Originally split a dual layer into two 5's. Would like to now rejoin the 2 parts to one DVD9. Need menus and the main title has subtitles. When this was first split i kept original menus on both. I believe I used Voblanker to split. Is this possible using any of the incredible free tools out there?
Thank you very much for your help!

Hi!I've seen alot on joining 2 completely different DVDs, nothing on rejoining 2 parts of the same previously split DVD.That's probably because the logical response is that it's far simpler to just make a new backup copy of your original DVD...

I don't know about you, setarip_old, but this stuff is getting to seem like whack-a-mole to me.

There is a thread on a similar subject at DVF here (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=77030).
Setarip_old, assuming that Manzano50 can re-rip its original DVD is negating the usefulness of the backup. If its original DVD is damaged, he needs to create a backup of the backup.

Hi!That's probably because the logical response is that it's far simpler to just make a new backup copy of your original DVD... Unfortunately we lost it with most everything else in Katrina. We were lucky to have had these as a kind of backup in storage when we couldn't get the more expensive dual layer discs.

This is for a DVD purchased for a Japanese class "Redbeard". Wanted to back it up but couldn't afford the dual layer and didn't want to "crush it" so used Voblanker and regular DVDs. Then we lost the original. Since we were able to get some dual layer discs we wanted to attempt restore to one disc. Thanks for understanding r0IZ

@r0lZ
According to the mods, it would then be inappropriate to respond at all:

Sorry, I haven't noticed this rule. But note that this rule is somewhat in contradiction with the principle of the backup. If you cannot own a backup of a damaged DVD, where is the advantage of doing backups?

But note that this rule is somewhat in contradiction with the principle of the backup.It's certainly not for me to question. I'm merely a member and not involved in making the rules ;>}

You already know that the logic is that normally, you make a backup and safely store away your original. That way, if there's damage or loss, you can always go back to your safely stored original and make another backup - whether 1:1 or split over two discs.
That's why they're called "backups" ;>}

I will ask Doom9 to make a ruling on this because we are seeing quite a few instances of people having ISOs and claiming to have lost the originals. If that flys, we may as cancel rule 6.

ammck55 (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=872233&postcount=9) has already summed it up perfectly. The rules aren't perfect by a long shot but sometimes we have to exclude the occasional legit application because the potential for abuse is just too great and in the end everybody benefits if this forum stays alive and doesn't get tangled up in lawsuits.
