Plextor TV-402u ConvertX - Vista Incompatible :(

Damn. I jsut installed a newly purchased windows Vista Ultimate. It is SICK. But unfortunately there is no support for the Plextor ConvertX Capture device :( Has anyone found a driver or work around to correct this issue?

1. Stick with XP.
2. Dual boot to XP / Vista, use XP when you need to use the ConvertX.
3. Stick with Vista, forego the ConvertX until drivers for it finally do come out (if ever).

No offense, but I agree with your assessment that Vista is sick. I have Vista Home Premium on my new notebook, and I'd love to have had the option of going back to XP Pro instead. Vista looks nice, works well with most of the preinstalled stuff, but is a pain in most other cases. Support for hardware and software is still a big joke overall, and probably will be for a while yet. With the right (higher-end) hardware and some time things may improve, but for now I'm sticking with XP on my desktops after my (forced) experience with Vista on the notebook.

(Forgot to mention- I have a ConvertX on my desktop too- an MP-402u. It's good to know that it's not supported before I got to experience the issue as you have. Thanks for the heads up.)

Thanks for the reply. Just wondering if mabye you or someone could help with my issue as I did try dual booting with XP but I'm having a wierd problem.

I have installed the drivers onto XP and the device installs fine. There are no exclamation marks next to the device in device manager, and the Plextor shows up under the 'sound video and game controllers' section in XP's device manager. I am using Windows XP.

The problem now is when I try to use the device with WinDVR 5 (The capture software that came with the Plextor device), I cannot get it to work. The only way I can capture any video with this device is if I use either Plextools LE or Plextor GoCap. For some reason, the intervideo WinDVR 5 software that I received with the device will not record or display video through the Plextor onto my screen.

I have downloaded all of the updates for WinDVR 5 and installed them in the proper order. I also tried uninstalling, cleaning the registry and reinstalling the software. However for some reason it still will not work. The software worked fine when I purchased this unit, however after reinstalling windows XP no matter what I do it will not work. I have also tried reformatting and installing XP again, but with the same results.

This worked fine with XP before I installed Vista :(
