In a computer with no recent upgrades or changes in the past few years?
The computer will not even initialize unless i turn it off and on a few times. Then i can get into bios and it stops after memory check and gives me this error:
Resource Conflict
PCI mass storage controller in slot 02
Bus: 04, Device 02, Function: 00
I think slot 2 i have a scsi controller, but i dont know what it would conflict with.
anyway to go about fixing this? I cant get into windows. So i cant use the device controller

Gimme all the components in the system, and anything software-wise you've run or updated in the last few days, then I can help. :)

Hi!
1) Thoroughly clean the innards of your system, as well as the fans
2) Make sure all cards/boards are properly seated and all wire connections are secure
3) Run a RAM test program (Runs from a bootable floppy)

Firstly, reassure me that your operating system isn't on the RAID array. Secondly, disconnect all the add-in cards in the system, RAID array included if the OS isn't on there, save for the graphics card, and then re-add them in one by one and see what causes the conflict. You can then juggle with devices and see what particular device is playing silly buggers without the dice. :)

You mentioned your system was dated... have you considered replacing your power supply. A number of bizarre and inexplicable problems can arise from a malfunctioning power supply

now the computer wont even turn on. the fans dont even spin.
is there anything but a power supply problem i could attribute that to?

If it's a new PS, it's not uncommon. Newer PSUs aren't as well-built as they once were, unfortunately. :(

Time to start swapping parts with spares if possible, but yeah, it's most likely either the power supply or the motherboard. (Family members love when their systems become "spares"...) An electrical short in pretty much any component could also cause that, but those are extremely rare in computers.

i hate power supply problems because it doesnt turn on unless its connected to the motherboard.
GRRR
hmm.
i dont even know what kind of power supply to get if that one died... i mean, that was a big power supply and supposed to be good
can anyone reccomend one?

Depends on your budget. PC Power and Cooling are considered the superior brand, but they run around >$180. Seasonics are great, and several models run under $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817151023
Larger fans usually mean quieter operation, if that's a consideration.
It is worth plunking down some dough for a quality power supply.

That happens, sadly; all hardware has bad batches now and then. Enermax is a pretty respected brand though, and at least you should be able to get a replacement from them that won't die after a year.

if i had a fried mother board or something, would the fans atleast still come on?
*.mp4 guy

Maybe, if the motherboard was only mostly fried they might work, otherwise they wouldn't because the motherbourd wouldn't initialise the powerup sequence to get power from the psu.

ok so now i got it to boot, but it wont go past bios, it just hangs after it finishes loading.

Crucio

memtest shows a thousand memory errors.
safe to say its memory?
psu can influence memtest too tho right?
