What's happened around here - have all the "can't be seen to be discussing anything smelling of piracy" rules gone out of the window.
Has there been a coup :)
As an example - How on earth can sharing HD-DVD keys be anything else?

Doom9 ruled as follows:
Even with the key, only disc owners can make use of it. If you think about rented / loaned discs, we do have that problem with DVDs already and we'd have to completely block out the topic of decryption if we were to do MPAA style censoring and consider every decryption as copyright infringement. The fact is we cannot tell whether an act of decryption leads to copyright infringement, so the "in dubio pro reo" rule, the foundation of our system of laws (although some politicians seem to conveniently forget it every now and then), has to be applied and for us that means assuming decryption isn't done with ill intent.

its her place after all Ummm....
It's just the old haunt doesn't seem the same HD-DVD/BD stuff was bound to increase. It has brought a lot of new members from slashdot, etc. But the old regulars are still here, think of us as a little subcommunity within the larger one.
It's good to see you back!

Recently I ran across a news article stating that the entertainment industry (music\movies) copy protection jihad is less about piracy and more about control. If you stop and think about it are not music\movies actually a form of information. He whom controls the information controls the power. For instance the region I currently find myself in is extremely conservative. The local entertainment as expected echoes the surrounding cultural-social environment.
Shades of Coast to Coast AM\Art Bell conspiracy theorists: what if the entertainment industry was attempting to control the flow of information for the purpose of affecting our attitudes\thoughts for whatever reason.

Rule 15 forbids political discussion. Discuss this in PM with me if you need to. Do not discuss it here as that would be off-topic and a rule 3 violation.
