View Full Version : Changing Containers

I have two files which I would now like to archive by fitting them onto a single dvd-r. Both come from HD TV recordings and have stumped me. The first is put into a mkv container (I can't remember how or why I did this) but my usual progs of choice, AGK and Mencoder, will not accept it. How can I either reduce the size of the mkv to 4 Gb, or change the format of the original so that I can use my normal tools?
The second programme is h.264 but contains a slight area of corruption (hardly noticeable when watching) which means that is crashes mencoder part way through. I would like to create a new file which is correct even if visually it has a slight glitch
Thanks in advance.

You use AGK with the xvid encoder ? Have a look at DrDivX. This tools is able to transcode your mkv into a divx file in a few clicks (note that you must have divx codec installed to use it properly).
Otherwise, you can demux each streams of your mkv and remux them by choosing an other container supported by AGK.

Corrupt frames can't be replace...but you can try to remux your avc stream into a mp4 or mkv.

I tried DrDivx but it doesn't recognise hdtv mkv files.

Hi!The first is put into a mkv containerIs there a reason you can't use the same software you used to also "take it out" of the .MKV container?

I can't remember what it was!! I was toying with converting stuff to MKV (and played around with all sorts of stuff wthout really getting to grips with them) but then stuck with XVID, but I didn't keep the original HDTV stream and only the mkv file I made. Now I want to dump it (as it's 15Gb+) and make a dvd-r sized file.

Vdub mod works to both load and save vfw mkvs, but you can hardly pull a stream out with mmg if you used that; you'd need mkvextract in that case.
