View Full Version : 1:06 minute delay caused by DGIndex 1.4.8.0 why?

Actually it's 66791ms.

I posted a few weeks ago and was told to use RipIt4Me to rip my DVD files to my hard drive and then to run them through FixVTS to avoid any blank spaces being removed completely causing sync errors.

I have done this and have had wonderful results. However, the lastest movie that I bought (and now want to make a DivX of for the Media PC I have) rips fine, (I.E. RipIt4Me --> FixVTS --> DVD Shrink) The next step I run it through DGIndex 1.4.8.0 and it pops out with a HUGE delay that is not accurate at all. What causes this? Should I use something other than Gordian Knot (and DGIndex) to create my DivX files?

(The video and audio sync perfectly during playback in DVD Shrink, yet changes in DGIndex)

I've tried to encode using 0ms delay, and also 66791 but both are very off.

WHAT I'VE DONE
I've changed every possible option in DGIndex and the delay remains the same.
I've tried ripping the movie in a variety of differnt ways. (i.e. Full DVD, Movie Only, ISO) but it still has that huge delay after decoding.

I thought changing how I ripped the movies would rid me of this frustrating problem, and until this peticular film, I had... but why some and not others? Does anyone have a quick fix to determine the delay I should use?

(I am making legal, back-up only copies of OWNED movies for playback on my Media Center PC)

I will be eternally grateful to anyone who can rid me of my "audio delay" ignorance!

Please and Thanks.

I need to understand what you are doing before I can help you.

You run your DVD through DVDShrink before going into DGIndex. Why?

@nitricpyro

Hi!

What is the Title and Region of the DVD?

Ok, the title is "Employee of the Month" and it's a region 1 DVD

What I'm doing precisly is one of two things.
1) Ripping the CD image with DVD Decrypter, and then using DVD Shrink to "remaster" just the movie into vob files. I'm then opening Gordian Knot and first running GDindex to prepare the vob's and then encoding into DivX like usual.

OR

2) Ripping just the movie from the disk using RipIt4Me, running all of it through FixVTS 1.603 (selecting all of the options) and then going straight to GDIndex and continuing.

The problem comes when I get done "preparing" the vob's with GDIndex. GDIndex always reports the delay at 66k ms.

When using step one however, in DVD Shrink the playback is synced perfectly when I save "Backup" to a "Folder" but GDIndex still reports the 66k delay.

Please rip just the movie as you describe in 2). Then cut the first 25Mbytes of the first VOB (do not cut the front and don't run it through FixVTS). Then upload it to megaupload.com and post the link.

I will get that uploaded this evening. Thanks

How do I cut the first 25 mb off? I haven't really had to do that before.

(Thanks for being patient with me)

I have the same issue with Employee of the month and the same thing with Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby.

I've tried loading in the appropriate VOBs immediately from the files created from the RipIt4Me output, and AFter running them through the Nero Recode Recode-Recode Main Movie to DVD option.

Same thing either way- an obviously erroneous delay when demuxing the audio track with DGindex.

As a side not, when I convert the main movie with nero recode to Nero DIgital AVC for iPod, the audio is synched up correctly with the video.

I'll try to upload the file like you asked in the next couple hours.

Guys, it's pointless to post without including a link to the VOB fragment. Just do it all at once with your link. Thank you.

And do not cut the VOB at the start.

Here are links to the two files. the first is the Talladega nights VOB, the second is the Emplyoee of the Month VOB.

I ran both test files through DGindex on got the same nonsensical delay as before. Hope this helps.

I dumped the timestamps for the second VOB. Here is a fragment:

SCR 121884815, [4514ms]
Decode picture: temporal reference 9[B]
Decode picture: temporal reference 10[B]
Decode picture: temporal reference 14[P]
Decode picture: temporal reference 12[B]
Decode picture: temporal reference 13[B]
SCR 1876574700, [69502ms]

You can see that the SCR (and the video PTS) takes a 65 second jump with only 5 frames having elapsed. I will investigate if it is possible to revise the delay algorithm to be resistant to this kind of silliness in the stream.

Load your EOTM.vob. Then hit the > button until you reach VOB 2 Cell 1. Then hit [ to start the project there and do Save Project. You'll get quite reasonable delay values. There is a little garbage at the beginning. I've been seeing that a lot lately. The skipped part is just black frames.

That technique worked fine for Talladega Nights, but Still had some synch error for employee of the month. Much closer, though. Thanks for your help!
