Ihave a tape recorded in 1994, about 1:20 long.
Using XP and Virtualdub, which codec should I use to encode the video? The first time I tried using uncompressed to avoid quality loss, but obviously the files are huge, 100GB.

So what do you think? Also, should I use Virtualdubmod not just plain VD?

Definitely a lossless codec like HuffYUV or Lagarith. Audio - I would say LAME MP3 (get the ACM codec), 128 - 192kbps CBR. depending on how anal you are about audio quality, you may want uncompressed PCM.

Then you can load this huffyuv/mp3 avi in avisynth, and filter it all you want, and do a proper 2 pass to xvid / x264 or mpeg-2.

Let me ask you another question, what resolution should I capture at? 720x480 - standard NTSC?

Also, check out what VD is doing to me...
