Ok so in the past I have taken my HD recodrings and down converted them for storage to the traditional 624x352 resolution (i use a fusion 5 hdtv w/ their software to do the recording to the tp). I realize the whole "once you remove quality you can never get it back" statement and I understand it, however I know there are filters out there that can bring some of it back. I'm looking to re-encode my 624x352 recordings and upconvert too either 960x528 or 544. mencoder is the encoder that I use normally but I'm open to suggestions with virtualdub and all that, however i like mencoder cause i can use my freebsd server to do the encode (much faster then my other windows comps).
can anyone recommend some good filter/scale options that can help to restore the image? thus far im using "-sws 10" which is the bicubic spline scalar and im also using hqdn3d to remove some noise from the final image to help clarify it.
I realize it wont ever get back to what it was, but I would like to try to get it at least part way back.
Thanks!
