So, I have vertical black lines in the whole of video, which look more like vertical interlace. e.g.

Can someone suggest a filter that I could apply to get rid of these or at least lessen their effect?

its in the analog signal that I am getting on my cable. I see them in xine and vlc as well.

I doubt the existing filters are of any use against this. Perhaps there could be something effective in AVISynth. However, I'd try to get a better signal first, if possible. Do you see those lines when watching on a normal TV set?

its actually not present on the normal tv set. So, its something that the tuner has introduced. My tuner is WinTV PVR USB2 and using latest pvrusb2 module under linux 2.6.19.2. Do you know if there is a setting in sysfs which I can change to get rid of these?

I don't know about the settings, but it could also be electrical interference caused by the physical setup. For example, a bad PSU may cause problems with all kinds of attached receivers, and badly designed TV card hardware is rather common (don't know about your device though). With USB devices, it is also possible to use an externally powered hub that helps in some cases like this. If possible, try the card with a different computer and perhaps on Windows to see if the problem is in Linux drivers.
