Help! DVR-MS -> WMV nightmare (a/v sync problem)

My PC is pretty close to taking an all expenses paid trip through the den window :(

I am trying to transcode MPEG2/AC3 -> WMV/WMA. Source of the files is OTA ATSC HD - some 720p60 some 1080i30.

Nearly every recording (through media center or BeyondTV) has at least one glitch or stutter somewhere - not an issue when viewing, but causing me nightmares trying to convert to WMV.

In summary, I've been doing the following:

DVR-MS -> MPG
MPG -> D2V + AC3 (DGDECODE).
AC3FIX on the AC3file
AC3DELAY on the AC3File
Standard AVS script to reduce from 720p60 -> 720p24 (well, 23.96... whatever), pull in AC3 audio (NicAC3Source) etc.
Use NicWMVEnc to encode to WMV9+WMA10.

Result is just great.... until the first glitch in the recording. From that point on, the encoded audio and video become out of sync. Every subsequent glitch it just gets worse. By the end of 45 minutes it's seconds out.

I also tried using ProjectX to do the fix/demux instead. Better - the A/V seems to stay in sync....

However there is a completely different problem: again, up until a glitch, everything is great. After that though, blank AC3 frames seem to be inserted at the rate of 2-3 Hz, from that point until the end of the recording ?!! :confused: Sure, I can tell it to "duplicate prev frame" instead, which results in a 2-3Hz warbling effect, like a bad old tape recorder....

I have no idea why it needs to pad the audio like that to retain sync. I can understand it around the dropouts in the source, but why the rest??

I don't have the ProjectX logs handy right now, will post sample errors later.

I can't believe I'm the only one wrestling with this problem.

It'll even open up your DVR-MS file. Save as mpg, and it should fix the glitches. You can also do a "QuickstreamFix" from one of the dropdown menus.

Just 2 weeks of spending my evenings "learning" :) by trial and error. And after all that I end up having to buy something... sigh.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try.

I've seen it before, but was put off by the somewhat non pro looking UI.

Just to add to my frustration, their website is down right now, so I can't download it....

You can go the 3 hrs, 25+mbps MPEG2 route, or the 24 hrs WMV route.

May not help with glitches in original .TS stream, but repacking into mkv might help get past glitches.
