Yesterday I tried to use autoqmatenc with DVD-RB, but its output was badly borked, I took a while to figure out that it has problems with avisynth 2.5.7 and that I had to put SetPlanarLegacyAlignment(true) in the DVD-RB filter editor...
Anyway, is AutoQMatEnc still developed? The result I got with it are very good (also if it's very slow), so I hope it is, but I haven't seen sapstar in the forum for a while...

I would not recommend using AVISYNTH 2.5.7 with DVD-RB until it has been out for a while and is more completely stable. I have had several reports of problems that appear when it is installed and disappear when the user reverts back to v2.5.6.

strange i have done fearless (jet-li) and Princess Mononoke (anime) with no issues (so far/i can see) using avisynth 2.5.7 - although the back ups i do are main movie and menus only, no filters - menu encoding - and both have come out at 4.32GB using cce, not tried aqe in a while - anyone think it might be worth a look again?

The errors I've seen reported are all over the map... no real pattern -- but luckily they all were fairly obviously related to AVISYNTH. If you follow the link in post #2 it looks like SAPSTAR may be making some modifications to AQE based upon something that has changed in AVISYNTH 2.5.7...

Would it help to let the RB installer to copy the appropriate version of avisynth.dll into the RB directory?

It just escaped my attention that another app installed version 2.5.7 into the system32 directory. Strange that the version.avs script still returns 2.5.6, whereas RB correctly returns 2.5.7 (i.e. same as the file properties).

(Luckily I didn't experience a problem with 2.5.7)

I see.
Apparently there is no easy way other than to check every time for the correct version (2.5.6 until further notice).
It proves sometimes a little difficult to keep the brilliant avisynth under control......

A new version is out with the corrections to the cpmpatibility problem with avisynth 2.5.7. Look in the beta testers link under www.autoqmatenc.com

Well its as good as not using avisynth 2.5.7, since the filters are the ones which cause most compatibility problems and since you are not using them, you didnt face any problems.

AQMenc is definitely worth a try, based on the features below.

- Uses multiple threads automatically based on your processor, so even if you are using DVD-RB free, its faster.
- Incorporates Qmatop, i.e. once enabled, it will determine the optimum matrix to be used for each dvd segment. Helps in maintaining quality on high compression encodes. although it has some speed decrements.
