View Full Version : 2 dvds are undersized :(

I have reencoded 2 dvds twice. The 1st time, it was undersized. and the 2nd time, it was still undersized. I must add that I am using version 1.21.
I must also add that I just reformatted my PC and before the reformat, I was able to get dvds around the 4.37GB mark BUT I was using the previous version 1.205 then.
I am using bach1 matrix before and after the reformat so I wouldn't think that's the problem. I am using the same filter script before and after the reformat as well.
Also, 1 thing I noticed is that encoding times are very fast compared before the reformat. instead of the usual 8 to 12 hours, it's taking around 2 hours albeit the dvds are undersized.
I have attached the rebuilder.ini, rebuilder.ecl and the log in a zip file.
thanks for the help. :)

I am rerunning the prepare phase and have changed the matrix to "encoder default".

Something is problematic in your AVISYNTH setup... DVD-RB is unable to recognize/determine the version. You are also using quite a few filters that may also be a potential source of issues. If you look at the resulting M2V files, are they viewable? My guess is that they might be simply AVISYNTH error messages -- and that's why they are encoding so fast.
Uninstall both DVD-RB and AVISYNTH, and then use the DVD-RB installer (it will install AVISYNTH v2.5.6).

I did install a newer version of avs (2.5.7 rc3 I think whereas I was using 2.5.7 rc2 before the reformat). that could be it!
====================
I must add the reencoded DVD looks beautiful! albeit undersized.

DVD-RB is unable to recognize/determine the version.
can you tell me which setting mentions the AVS version?

can you tell me which setting mentions the AVS version?
From your rebuilder.log file:
[23:34:50] Phase I, PREPARATION started.
- DVD-RB v1.21.0
- AVISYNTH UNKNOWN
- CCE encoder selected.
- AVS Filters are enabled.
I suggest you do as jdobbs suggested and uninstall DVD-RB and AVISYNTH and the install DVD-RB again in full. It will install AVISYNTH v2.5.6 which is fully compatible with DVD-RB.

Do not use AVISYNTH v2.5.7 with DVD Rebuilder until it has been out for a while and is proven to be stable. I have received several reports of problems that start with installation of that version and go away immediately upon reverting to v2.5.6.

I've installed 2.5.6 and undersize problem went away. Having said that, I also mentioned that, I was using 2.5.7 rc2 before the reformat and there were no undersize problems :)
thanks for the help :)

I think the final release of v2.5.7 was premature... based upon what I've gotten in feedback with DVD-RB it is not ready for primetime.

Also, if you're DVD is seriously undersized and takes hardly anytime that because AVISYnth is just outputting video that there is a problem with one of the filters you are using
Especially after a format as one of the filters may need something else that you forgot about, I use NanDecode with ColorMatrix and if I forget to use Nans .dll with DVD-RB I get the same problem

@Boulder,
Damn straight!
@All,
Looks like I made 3 released candidates and no one thought to mention there might be a problem.
Pretty p...ed off

Talk to the people reporting the problems... Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger.
My difficulty is this... numerous people reported problems when they upgraded independently (DVD-RB uses v2.56 inherently). They then said the problems went away when they stepped back. So when someone asks me whether they should upgrade -- what should I say?

Hmmm, I don't know who you are but have to assume maybe you have something to do w/Avisynth? ;)
Impossible to tell cuz you have no sig or homepage attached to your ID. And I just looked at the docs for it and I can't find anything that suggests where to report problems... :confused:

Well, there's an Avisynth usage forum here for example...
@Laserfan,
Sorry, I am one of the current developers of Avisynth, and yes I understand Doom9 is a hugh forum (we missed this issue completely). You are always welcome to add a quick post to the Avisynth Development (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=69) forum. We do rely on users to report problems (how else can they get fixed).

Hi IanB I followed your link and can see easily--this is an area of Doom9 which I might never go into ("Development") except that I generally just enter Doom9 showing all new posts, wherever they might originate.
Anyway clearly there are a lot of people using a lot of tools w/Avisynth underlying them where they don't *think* about it-it just works (or not, without knowing why). In any case a "to report problems visit <web page>" in a readme in the Avisynth directory might be helpful. :)
