View Full Version : Can I mux an .SRT file and have it disabled as default? (UPDATE2: solved)

A friend of mine bought me the Simpsons S7 set and I'm making a backup of it to watch on my PC. This backup will have the latin-american and english audio, plus the spanish subs. Thing is, I want the default setup to be latin-american audio and no subs. Can I do this with either YAMB or MMG?

Yes, you can do that with both Yamb or mmg...
For latin audio stream, put it first (i.e just after video stream) followed by the english one. And for sub, the simpliest way could be to create a new empty file which could be included before the spanish one.
Or an other option: switch to the streams you want during the playback...

I already put the video first, then the LA audio and checking it as default, then the english audio. The last thing I put were the subs without checking them as default, but they still appeared when playing the episode (this had been done with MKVToolnix). Creating a new empty file which could be included before the spanish one sounds like a good idea but I don't fully understand what you mean, how would I go about doing it?

Just create a srt file like this
1
00:00:00,000 --> 02:00:00,000
and add it to the mux by checking "make default track" in mmg. Note that the second timestamp must have the movie duration...

I'll do that then, thanks for the tip http://smilies.vidahost.com/otn/wink/thumb.gif. Just out of curiosity, how much more complicated are the alternate methods?

Nothing is complicated...:)

I only now got around to trying this. What I did was take the spanish SRTs, delete everything except for the "1", open the MP4 in VDubMod via DSS in order to see the length and so the resulting Null.srt file was like this:
1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:23:21,360
just like you said. When trying to add it in MMG v1.8.0, I get the following error message:

What could be happenning?

Use the latest mkvtoolnix version. There you can add the subtitles and set them all to "default = no". If I do that, MPC with Haali's Media Splitter properly disables subtitles as default.

Great, MKVToolnix v2.0.2 gives me an error message and a DrWatson32 error message when trying to load the .MP4 :(.

delete everything except for the "1"
Timestamps are also mandatory...only text is optional.

I undertand that, as I said the Null .SRT file is like this:
00:00:00,000 --> 00:23:21,360
In any case, I now have to add to that the problem with v2.0.2 described above :(.

@Chainmax, Your srt file is not recognized as a valid file type because mkvmerge is not able to detect any character text in the file. Timecodes alone are not sufficient. Add a single space below the timecodes in the next line, save the file, retry and it will work.

Weird, MMG gives me the error messages I described when trying to add/remove a file with the buttons, but using drag'n'drop it seems to do ok :confused:.
unskinnyboy: you were right, the null file now is accepted. Thanks :).

Even though drag'n'dropping got the files accepted, when entering the video file, nothing appeared in the "Tracks" window. Luckily, the v2.0.2-1 update for Windows solved that issue :).
