I have been encoding some of my videos to different codecs and I'm wondering if its passing AC3 or encoding it to something else. I don't have my receiver hooked up so I can't test that way. Is there any programs that can tell me the specifics of a file? Maybe what kind of resolution its in and the audio it has?

Thanks

Hi!

Try loading your video(s) into GSpot...

Thanks for the info. I tried the program and it works for my files except for my nero mp4's.

Among others, the Quicktime Player should allow you to view the audio and video compnents of your .MP4 files...

In fact, the latest release candidate (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) of gspot comes with MP4 support and more. Much better than Quicktime. (MediaInfo is another good tool for it.)

I downloaded v2.60 rc01 of gspot which I thought was the latest version and it doesn't seem to give the info still. I downloaded that media info you suggested and that is good enough for now. Thanks

I'm aware of the GSpot RC01 problem with Nero files, it's because Nero invented 10 or so new so-called "ftyp" codes - a development I didn't expect. GSpot RCO1 was "depending" on "normal" ftyp codes.

But rather than release a "quick fix RC02" (I've had the basic "Nero problem" solved for a while) - I took the time to research and document all the "ftyp" codes that exist (there's very scant info on the subject). So while I was at it, I registered and created the web page ftypes.com (http://ftyps.com/). All the info on that page is now built into GSpot RC02. But this whole process put a slight delay on things - I still expect to post RC02 in a few days, though.

miklg21, you'll love RC02 you'll love if you're a Nero user. What was previously a "problem" is now a "plus" --- see the screenshots of beta RC02 test version in this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=919866#post919866). Not only will does it now work with Nero encodes - it'll actually tell you whether or not Nero was the encoder used, and, if so, exactly which of their profiles was selected.

Thanks for the info. I will definetly keep an eye out for that update.
