Thought it might be useful for an up to date discussion on Troubleshooting. With a new version of Windows shipping, HD resolutions for TV and video cameras commonplace, portable video devices the rage, etc - software integration is becoming more complicated. That means more difficult problems to solve for the multitude of folks who contribute software/expertise to the video/audio community.
Which tools would make it easier for end users to report/describe a problem, and what kind of information are the experts and developers interested in seeing in order to make troubleshooting easier?
Should there be a standard set of diagnostic apps to run in order to document an installation of (for example) -Avisynth / Plugins / Support .dlls /Codecs/Windows/ Hardware ? What would a report like that look like?
What about a standard series of photos to describe different kinds of video noise? Or, should the end user always post a still frame of the noise/problem they wish to address ?
Finally, is this too ambitious of an undertaking or is there even enough interest to put a toolkit together?
