Could it be possible to use an external HD drive to play in a Window's XP? I am thinking initially of using current monitor which is not HD compatible but still using the VGA connection. Also, if there is an external drive available, could I also use it to rip to the hard drive and burn back to a blank HDDVD in the same HD drive.

What software would I need? I prefer not to upgrade to Vista or use the X Box 360.

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 series, Intel Pentium 4 Processor 550 (3.4GHz) w/HT technology and 1MB cache, 8 QRB461. 1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 400MHZ. 128MB PCI Express x 16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon x800 SE.

Hi-

Here's a handy tool that tells you if your computer is ready for Hi-Def DVDs:

I think you'll find you're not even close.

Thank you. I downloaded the adviser. Apparently the minimum Processor is an Intel Pentium 4 541 (3.2G) processor. I have an Intel Pentium 4 550 (3.4) processor. My Graphic card should be able to be upgraded (?). My card is a ATI Radeon X800 seroes. Apparently I need X1600 or X1800 pr X1900 for Service Pack 2. PowerDVD 6.00 1477 is easy enough to download. I can purchase an HDCP- compliant Display. The driver apparently can be downloaded as well. Are there any external or internal HDDVD drives available that can record?

I just noticed this on the "backup hddvd" thread:

Apparently it can be done! He used a VGA connection.
