Hi guys & Gals

I have just ordered a SKY+HD box and would like to know what i need to capture a HD program and drag that to the PC and convert to XviD? OK i know i sounds noobish but i have never used SKY+ and have no idea if its just a cable i need or something more complicated :)

Hope you EXPERTS can help.

I am curious of the same thing. I want to copy Sky HD to my PC for archiving, I am not sure I will convert to DIVX but I wouldn't mind knowing how to copy HDTV to HD on my PC in exact same bitrate it came from so I can put the footage to HD-DVD.

The only way would be to buy a HDTV card for a pc, a common interface module, and a CAM (card reader for your official card). You could then store the original unencrypted stream as h.264 or convert it to another format. However, the above kit is going to set you back over £200.

As I remember the stream isn't decoded until playback, so anything saved on your box would be no use even if you could extract it from the Sky HD box.

The best you can do otherwise is to take the existing low res feed from the scart cable etc, but then it's obviously not HD.

there is another possible way, but it does involve removing the hard drive from the hd box, if the complete stream from the channel you are viewing is stored on the s*yHD box along with the ecm, emm etc, it should be possible to use the card reader/card along with joshyfuns offline descrambler and relevant cam to decode, you will need more than that though, as you need to get the data to the pc,the extract tool which is available for the s*y + boxes may do that. you still need to decode the stream though, this could possibly be done with joshyfuns tool and the relevant decoding cam, this is very much dependent on how the data is stored though by the s*yHD box.
