HeadAC3he x-mas edition released!

=-0.16pre (x-mas edition)-=
- mp3 encoding now done without going to 16bit, ie. the complete conversion
is done in the float region! (Thx to DSPGuru for enhancing the lame_enc.dll!)
- disabled hybrid mode for 32bit floats (makes no sense!)
- added 32bit float WAV target
- azid.dll is now dynamically linked, so for AC3 and AC3-WAV target you don't need
the dll
- a lot of fixes and enhancements
=-0.15a-pre-=
- fixed endframe time not being shown on file-opening
- fixed mp3 target showed wav destination size.
Keep in mind in VBR mode it is just guessing and not all possibilities are considered!
- added more logics to the bitrate selectioning (to prevent min>ave>max)
Since my f###ing space provider is down, you gotta wait till my site darkav.de.vu is reachable again or till one of the following site mirrored it:

Dark Avenger,
Great work on the new version. It's working really well for me.
One thing that confuses me is the LAME configuration. Once I hit the start button to encode to the mp3, it starts ripping. While it's ripping I then go set the LAME configuration as ABR, etc. My question is...Can I set the LAME configuration up before I hit the "Start" button?
As a feature request. Is it possible to have a command line or possibly more LAME switches/buttons in your LAME configuration window? I know the DLL doesn't support all the switches but it does support quite a few. Maybe I'm wrong but doesn't the 3.90 DLL also support --r3mix? Since we don't have the --alt-presets in the DLL yet, --r3mix would definitely be a suitable workaround for the time being. Just a few of my thoughts.
Thanks again for continuing the great work on the proggy.

I didn't receive an announcement.. just learned of it by coming here... will be online the next time I update my page (actually if you can guess the filename you can already download it.. it's just not linked yet).

hm this is strange behaviour. A bug? In fact pressing the options button 2 times will give you the LAME config screen (after haven chosen mp3 target). But after pressing start, it should be impossible to enter the options, or what do you refer to? Have you modified the HeadAC3he.INI? Please send me a screen shot (as .png) and the ini file via email. (Don't PM, I don't like it too much.) Something seems to be wrong...

First no, latter yes.

In fact I wanted the default preset to be r3mix, but the problem is you can't use abr or cbr then! So (and because of lazyness) I didn't implemet the use of presets (many people probably would not understand the behaviour) and wait till the new preset interface gets into the dll.

Damn, I already thought that the email didn't reach the recipients because I attached a file. I'll try again. Please report back!

Actually it was a bug but only in the 0.15 version :-) However, it looks like you fixed it in the 0.16 version, I can no longer get to the options while the encoding is taking place. This is the correct way so I'm sorry if I scared you
BTW- I have modified my INI file to use a min of 64MB and a max of 256MB for the buffer, this was to increase performance. The block size in the INI is defaulted to 1024. Could I change that to something like 4096 to increase performance? Just a thought :)

One other thing...
I've tried using 3 different versions of the so called "hacked" DLL with the --alt-presets. All 3 versions crash HeadAC3he 0.16 at the end of the encoding process to MP3. I suspect this isn't a problem with HeadAC3he but the problem might be the DLL.
Anyone else tested the newer DLL's with HeadAC3he?

about performance: YOu could try to change the block size. Maybe it helps, maybe not. I think with BTT (on my site, as well) you can find out. BTW, the min only is used as a low border if you don't have enough free mem, so if you want to be force HEadAC3he to make win swap and free mem, set the min higher. The faster your hds are, the higher you should set both values.
It is strange, that the behaviour disappeared with v0.16, but as long as it is gone, I am happy. :) But I don't think it should crash with the modified .dlls. Does it ever crash with the normal? I have one modified dll here, but it didn't crash. How long is the ac3 you convert and which settings do you use? I might do a little bit of investigation.

Hi DA-The new one is crashing on me at the very end (leaving me with a 2 GB unplayable WAV file-that must be the reason-Win 98), whereas the previous version with the same settings didn't crash. Settings are MP3 in the main screen, Stereo and low pass filter (maybe should have left that one alone) in the Azid options screen, and max 160 bitrate and quality 4 in the Lame options screen. Everything else is at default.
0.15pre is working well with the same settings, so I'll use it for the time being. I do love your program, though.

COuld you tell me which OS and which 2pass mode you are using? Does it happen with dumb mode as well?

Hi Dark Avenger-I was using the original Win 98 OS, and the Hybrid 2-Pass mode. I had tried it twice with the same result. So I finished the movie with sound from 0.15pre.
After I got your response (thanks), I tried again with a different movie (I had deleted the files from the original movie), first in Dumb mode, and then using Hybrid mode, and both were successful. So perhaps it was some kind of a fluke, or perhaps it had something to do with the 2 GB WAV file I was left with in the original movie. Anyway, I'll use the new one and report if the problem occurs again. Thanks for your help.
