View Full Version : How to remove aspect ratio on "Crank" and movies where ratio selection is in menu

I have read a few of 2Cools Guides which have helped me a LOT and have been able to successfully remove the Full screen version of quite a few movies that have wide and full screens versions on the same disc (both on same side) which ends up in a rip that requres NO compression (BEAUTIFUL !!)
However, the movie Crank has a user menu that is in a menu that has other buttons. I looked but could not find a solution for this movie. Is there a guide or a way to get around this. I usually try to keep my backups with all the bells and whistles (and as close to my original as possible) but this one is proving to be quite difficult.
I use DVD decrypter and DVD Shrink with pcgedit and Fix-VTS(I usually use the PSL2 plugin or RipItForMe)

Hi!

At least for Region 1, I don't believe "Crank" was released as a single-sided DVD containing BOTH widescreen and fullscreen versions.

It does, however, have options for the unedited audio and a "family friendly version" of the audio...

If you mean something else, please explain further ;>}

The family friendly audio is just another audio channel that can be unchecked when you use DVDshrink. It will still show up in the menu but it can easily be left out the same way you leave out Spanish, French and Director Commentaries.
The option I want to cut out is the "CRANKED" version of the film. The film is actually presented twice on this DVD (Just like a Full Screen and a Wide Screen). One version of the movie is te regular version and the other version is the cranked version, which to me is more like a commentary version. A small box appears at the bottom of the screen where the directors talk all throughout the movie. A big waste of nearly 4GB of space as far as Im concerned. I would love to delete this but the menu where you select cranked or regular version has other buttons so its not really a page that you want to bypass. I need a guide that can help me disable the crank button (since I can bypass the page) or erase the crank button so I never have to look at it.
I am somewhat familiar with PCGEdit, but that only because I use the PSL2 plugin and RipItForMe apps, but I am willing to learn and read guides if need be.
Thanks a mil for ANY help or ideas.

A big waste of nearly 4GB of space as far as Im concerned. Not to nitpick but, it's "only" 1.9Gb (and it's Title 2/VTS_02).

Read some of the threads in the "IFO/VOB Editors" sub-forum here...

Try this (http://download.videohelp.com/r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/blank_titles/blank_vts_titles.htm), it's what I used to blank that title if I remember correctly

Important: Will BLANK all the titles in that titleset (VTST), so the title(s) to be blanked needs to be the only Title(s) in that VTST.

There is another NEWER feature (v7.0)that will allow you to blank SINGLE cells within a titleset

A. Preview: In trace mode, it is now possible to blank the current cell from
the preview window. In addition, when all cells of the current PGC are
blanked, the user is prompted to kill the playback of the PGC.

Little check box in the Trace Menu area, don't have PgcEdit on this machine, can't snag you a pic .....

PS: 1.9gb is a considerable savings when trying to fit on a SL disc, hope you get it worked out, good luck !

AX

I will look into these. I actually WAS able to blank out wit PCGEdit using Aliens VTS blank, but the menu that has the option to watch the 'Cranked' version of the movie is still there. It cant be bypassed because there are OTHER buttons on that page so I dont want to blank out thaht page, just the button ON that page. So what I REALLY need to do is EDIT one of the menu pages to DISABLE a button as oppossed to blanking out the VOB that the button refers you too.
By the way guys, blanking out the cranked version results in a rip that requires NO copmpression. (and thats without blanking any languages, so I get to hold on to family friendly audio, which I think is a good idea although I'll never use it for me).
Thanks for help. Will look into this later this week.
THANKS

It's easy to disable that button so you can't click on it. Open the DVD in PGCEdit, right-click the menu that has that button (there may be more than one, can't remember), and hit "Menu Buttons".

Then a new screen opens up with all the buttons. Right-click the one you want to get rid of, a new screen pops up, and at the top, Hide Button->Jump To Non-deleted Button. OK/Close back to the main screen, Save, and test.

This is a PHAAAAT solution if it works. I will try it later on this week. Thanks a MIL for that advice. Can you alos DELETE a button from even appearing. I know that the menu screen might look a little funny but deleting a buttong would be even better than disabling it in some cases, especially if you could edit the background pic and erase the captopn for the button you want to delete so the option to select AND the ability to select are both gone without any obvious alterations.

What do you mean, if it works? :) Most people around here know how to do it and do it all the time.

Can you alos DELETE a button from even appearing.

Following my instructions from before, you'll never see the button. Are you talking about editing the background menu so you don't see the words at all, as if the Cranked version never existed? Yes, but it's a bit more difficult. I can't remember if it's a static menu (easy to do it) or a motion menu (harder, but doable). How are your editing skills? Here, see if this guide helps you:

If it's a static menu, then skip down to the bottom of the post, to The Easy Way.
