I purchased a spindle of Verbatim dl blank discs on Ebay almost
three weeks ago. I just talked to the seller, and informs me it
will be another week before delivery. Actually not a big deal, I
can wait, especially since I have no choice. My question is,
BESTBUY is selling a 15 pack of Memorex DL's for $19.99. To me
that sounds like a great deal. I know Verbatim seems to be the dl
disc of choice here, but is there any reason why I shouldn't get
the Memorex to start out with.
My DVD burner is the Memorex 16X.

Verbatim is the only reliable dl disc.

For what it's worth, I decided to pick up a 15 disc spindle (Memorex) from Bestbuy. I opened up my Illusionist VIDEO_TS files in Imgburn, created my mds files and burned my first DL
disc without any problem at all. The movie with everything including
subtitles and director comments weighed in at just under 7 gigs.
I really excited that I didn't have to compress it. Compression
with movie title only on a DVD+R would have been at 62%
I still have the Verbatim discs promised next week, but I'm glad I
took a shot with the Memorex. I'll post a coaster count at spindles
end.

Hi!

Have you played it from start to finish - to make certain that it doesn't freeze at the layer break (or elsewhere)?

Damn it, Great point! My plan is to watch it over the weekend
in my theater. I watched about 20 min of it on my computer.
I'll post my findings.

Well we watched The Illusionist last night. First of all, Great movie.
Secondly, and I had the wife looking too, we saw absolutely no
transition at all between the two layers. And I mean nothing at all.
Maybe I got lucky with the first disc, but I'm pleased it worked.
I'll post any coaster count at the end of the spindle.
Bestbuy (at least in Rockville, MD) is selling the 20 disc DL spindle
of Verbatims for $29.99 starting today.

Great to hear that the Memorex D/L worked out okay for you - especially on such a good movie ;>}

The problem with Memorex is that you don't know what you get. They have been using just about every supplier, but mostly rely on CMC Magnetics or other not-so-good manufacturers. My personal opinion would be rely on Verbatim - even though this scan aint too spectacular. Still, they are predictable.
