Hello

I seem to have a problem recording games using programs like fraps, this might apply to other kinds of recording but ive only found this problem so far.

I 1st tried ZD soft i recorded a video file, i tried to play it back with windows media player but it stated the codec wasnt recognised. I gave up with it and tried fraps. I found that it wouldnt even record/create files at all. However i installed both onto my laptop (my other PC) and it worked fine. i also realised that the problem was not that my desktop could not recognise the file, because when i transfered the video files that were created on the laptop to the desktop, they played fine, likewise the files created on the desktop would not work on the laptop. so the problem must be with the actual recording of the files?

I went to properties>summary of the video files i created using the software on the destop and noticed there is no frame rate or data rate. if thats helpful?

Also i ran 'dxdiag' there didnt seem to be any errors.

the problem seems to be in the encoding..it just wont. there is no video as such, the file size is so small. if i run the files created through gspot it just says it cannot be played despite other software tools like video editing being capable of encoding with exactly the same codecs.

desktop:
3.6 ghz AMD
Geforce 6600 GT
1gig RAM

laptop:
3.0 ghz pentium
Radeon
512 MB RAM

I cant understand why game recording wont work on my desktop computer. I hope you can help.

Thankyou

There's more than likely a problem with your installation of Fraps. It needs to be installed on the computer on which you want to play the video, so the fact that you can't play Fraps video with the computer on which you can't record says a lot. Try uninstalling/reinstalling it.

If i remember correctly Fraps uses a stand alone codec to fastly compress video When the computer's resources were exhausted by your game.

I think CWR03 is right.
