Hello,
I have after going through every post and trying every single method i have found a way to encoder perfectly (nearly) from taking alot of ideas and putting them together.
If you would like to see the sample then it can be downloaded from here: http://www.mytempdir.com/1161949
The sample is fully cropped and deinterlaced HDTV and has been encoded to XviD.
Video: XviD @ 1200kbps | 25fps | 960x544 (cropped) resolution
Audio: AC3 5.1 384kbps (64kb p/c)
Length: 3:01
Size: 39mb
There is the black bar at the bottom - thats only becuase i forgot to crop it. :D
Once i have fully worked out the method to get perfect results then i will post full instruction here - enjoy the sample.

thats where i think my problems are - with my codecs installed. I have: Core AVC v1.2 installed and registered, HDTV Pump, AC3Filter, ffdshow or something like that - i have installed the k-lite mega pack with only a few bits and *touch alot of wood* things might be working at the moment.
I got around the problem (i think i have) with the large filesizes by adding -S 1000 at the end then chaining the files together when encoding. I extract the AC3 as one file but im very used to manually syncing so its no problem.

Audio / video codecs ?
the codec is H.264 and AC3 the resolution of the transmission is 1440x1080 anamorphic.
as far as i am aware there is nothing to automatically demux and indicate the delay like dgindex does for mpeg2 for this type of stream.
Otherwise i would be capturing a lot more stuff.

manual syncing is the easiest way to do it, that is the way i encode, ill encode the .avi (from .264) with audio then manually sync just by watching and working out how many ms the audio is off sync.
