View Full Version : How do I burn a dual-layer DVD after I have authored it (not 1:1)?

Hi, I have extracted a dual-layer DVD to my hard disk using DVD Decrypter in file mode. I have removed some sections of the DVD that I don't want. Now I want to burn it to a dual-layer disk.

I was just going to do it with Nero, but I am worried about the layer-break, will Nero automatically select a good place for the layer-break?

If I was producing a 1:1 copy I would just read in ISO mode with an MDS file and burn with ImgBurn, but to use it with an authored DVD in a folder, I had to build an ISO first, which doesn't produce an MDS file, and ImgBurn complains that "the image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto a double layer disc".

How do I scan for a layer-break, or choose one? If I burn the DVD folder with Nero, where will the layer-break be?

Many thanks

Hi!If I was producing a 1:1 copy I would just read in ISO mode with an MDS file and burn with ImgBurn, but to use it with an authored DVD in a folderThis is incorrect. The current version of "IMGBurn" will accept a DVD "package" (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs) as input. Select "Build" mode to do this...

Ah I see, thanks. So now I need to select my layer break. All the options are "average" and I don't really know what the other columns mean. How do I choose? I have attached a screen dump. What are the effects of choosing a bad layer break, a jerky layer change, or possible incompatibility? What happens if I "ignore layer break options"?

Thanks

Just select the highest quality layer break that's indicated (If they're all "Average", pick any one)...

50/50 space usage between layers is the most compatible so i'd go for the 4th one down - 'Cell 6'.
