I don't know if this problem exists, or if all mjpeg codecs give the same results, since jpeg decoding is an easy task...
Let's explain the problem: currently I am using the mjpeg decoder included in ffdshow to decode mjpeg AVIs made with a FAST AV MASTER capture card. What happens if I change decoder? Do all mjpeg codecs give the same results in decoding? Or maybe the images look different?

Please read and follow forum rules, specifically, rule 12: do not ask what's best. Thank you.

Well... you are right... but I also made another question: do all mjpeg codecs give the same results in decoding?

As long as they are not broken and the same settings are used (where applicable), their outputs should be indistinguishable.

I have no trouble with ffdshow's MJPEG decoder and don't see any significant difference between that and the PicVideo one, though I haven't done any thorough testing or anything.

Thanks to everybody! I'll go on using ffdshow.
The following question is made in order to try to understand Windows. I disabled the mjpeg decoder of ffdshow, registered the mjpeg decoder from AV MASTER and tried to render a mjpeg capture. I noticed that mjpeg decoding was made directly by quartz.dll and I wasn't able to exclude it.
GSpot says that there are two ways of rendering an avi mjpeg: the first way uses quartz.dll, the second way uses AV MASTER decoder. How can I explain to Windows that it must use the AV MASTER decoder?

IIRC, "quartz.dll" handles all VfW codecs (as opposed to Directshow codecs such as ffdshow) within directshow.

ffdshow has a VfW component as well, which can be configured to decode mjpg as well. if you use virtualdub a lot it can be good to know, as virtualdub is Video for Windows only, and not directshow.
