Hello,
Although I'm sure this has been covered, I couldn't find it in the forums or FAQ. Anyway, using Windows, I need to convert an AVI to a DVD that can be watched on a standard home entertainment DVD player. The only application I've found that "claims" to do it is the Xilisoft "AVI to DVD Converter". However, it appears to be fairly worthless. I gave up on it after 3 out of 3 bad DVDs were produced. Any suggestions/links would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ray

Both Roxio's and Nero's full versions have drag-and-drop utilities that make short work of it. There are many other tools, most of which are free, such as AVI2DVD.

You could try FAVC.

I've used the program AVI2DVD many a time with no problems at all. Really easy to use too.

nin96932, I agree that it is easy to use, but I must temperate your enthusiasm.
AVI2DVD installs a bunch of codecs, including some unstable ones, and that can lead to serious problems. For example, after installing it on my system, the preview of IfoEdit did not work anymore. Uninstalling DVD2AVI has solved the problem. Of course, it is probably possible to fine tune the codecs by changing their "merits", but it's not really easy to do.
IMO, DVD2AVI is currently not stable enough.

I use TMPEnc Plus for that purpose.

You know Seashell, I get awfully suspicious when a dead thread is revived to tout a commercial product.
Be very aware of our spam rules. Your links have been removed and given your previous posts, a strike has been issued.

The problem is not the soft ware of xilisft avi to dvd converter, maybe something wrong with your dvd player or your dvd with bad quality.

I've been reading this guide to convert an AVI file to DVD.
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/avi2dvdr.htm
At one point the writer suggests to create an AC3 audio file if the source audio is MP3. Then the links to mpeg-2 encoders show up but doesn't say anything about what to do with the AC3 file made. What am I supposed to do with the AC3 file? None of the free MPEG-2 programs show an option to input the AC3 file that I can see.

An "Mpeg 2 Encoder" is just that. A tool for encoding Video into Mpeg 2. To make a usable DVD, the audio needs to be either AC3, MPA, or WAV. Then you need to MUX, e.i. combine the Video with the Audio. This is where most DVD burning apps come into play.
