Ok I have had success burning my first dvd film onto a 4.3gig dvd.
But when I try to burn data to a 4.3gig dvd after I have already added
data this is what happens.
1. First data is burning onto dvd (with the option,"allow more data to be added Later")
2. Finalising first data
3. Clicking burn add second data onto dvd disc. My first data has now been overwritten and only the second and final data is visible on the Disc.
so why did Nero lie to me after I clicked option "allow more data to be added Later"?
I do not understand how nero can write over the first movie when my dvd disc is NOT a re-writable one.
there is still 3.8 gig available on this dvd disc, after I burnt 700meg onto it.

You have probably burned a multisession disc. Only the latest session is visible by Windoze.
If you want to see everything, you must turn on an option to "import" the old sessions into the new one when you add more data. (Only the filenames are imported, not the data themselves, so using this option consumes very few disc space.)
Since I don't use Nero, I don't remember where this option is located exactly. Sorry.
Also, in the past, there was a tool to select the session you want to see in Windows. Unfortunately, this tool is discontinued, and I can't find it any more, and, once again, I can't remember its name.
[EDIT:] I googled a bit. The tool was called Session Selector, and was written by Ahead, but runs only under Win9X. Anyway, it is not included in the Nero package any more. Currently, you can use payware tools like ISOBuster to recover the hidden sessions.

Thank you for your reply, I dont understand why Nero is going
backwards with its technology instead of forwards.
You are right I tried Nero again this morning and it came up with
this message "You will not be able to see all the data on the disk", I think this really sucks. When I checked this DVD with
NTI DVD maker it said I have already used 1400meg, so this means 2 movies are on there ,but only the most recent one has
its file name listed.
It just so happens I have isobuster, but have not tried it on this
dvd yet. I will let you know if I have success.

Try to locate the option to import the filenames of the previous session in the new one, and let us know if it still exists, and how to enable it. Thanks!

I have not had much luck over the weekend to find the option for import filename of previuos session. But have had some advantage of isobuster which u mentioned. Its version 1.9 and here is what it does.
1. I load the disc into isobuster.
2. View disc information.
3. Dvd-R
session 1/ track 1
movie name=spanishfilm 700meg (Nero does not find this)
session 2/ track 2
movie name=frenchfilm 696meg
Isobuster will let me extract both movies onto where I want.
Its a pitty though that no other program will read and play the
first movie, until I extract it with isobuster.
4. I have now worked out how to add movies without muli session.

Thanks for letting us know.
I've googled a bit and it seems that importing the previous session with Nero is feasible. You have to use the "continue multisession" option, and not create a new session.
Note that it is only possible to import the previous session, not the preceding ones. But since you can see the data of the prev session when you import it, you can create as many sessions as you want, and see the whole content of the disc. Of course, it is important to continue multisession each time, or the chain will be broken.
Also, if you burn a new file with the same name than a file in a previous session, the old file will be unavailable (but still accessible with IsoBuster.)
