View Full Version : Which version of DGDecode with DVD-RB Pro

I notice on the DVD-RB website that they have DGDecode 1.1.0+ by NaN as an available download.

There is a later version, namely DGDecode 1.1.1 by NaN, which states in the readme.txt that it is compatible with DVD-RB.

I've found that while the new v1.1.1 works fine in DVD-RB Pro when backing up DVDs, it doesn't work fine when using the new Mobile output. The audio goes way out of sync.

2 questions:

1. Does the v1.1.0+ work with the new mobile output or do I have to stay with the DGDecode that comes with DVD-RB Pro?

2. Is support for the new version (1.1.1) going to included in a future release of DVD-RB Pro?

cheers

I haven't tried it with the mobile output. I'll take a look at it.

I looked at it. It won't be as simple as I'd hoped. Unfortunately in the v1.1.0 format, the only way you can get the program to feed raw frames (the "ignore pulldown" option wasn't available then) is to create the D2V in a manner that the TFF/RFF flags indicate no pulldown.

That becomes a problem in feeding the stream for MOBILE encoding -- because there is then no way to modify (simply) the D2V so that pulldown will be honored (which is needed for MOBILE encoding).

I'm looking at a way to reapply the flags from the .FLG files to the D2V when I create the D2V that's used for MOBILE encoding (it's the one in the D2VAVS folder with the "M" suffix). But it may take a little work...

So do any of the NaN DGDecode's work with the new mobile output or just the DGDecode that comes with the full DVD-RB Pro install?

cheers

They should work correctly on virtually all PAL sources (as long as no pulldown is used). They would also work on non-telecined NTSC sources. But if used with telecined or hybrid (a mixure of telecined/non-telecined) sources (most NTSC movies are telecined) you will not get audio sync.

[added] Just one additional note... I've also found a bug that could cause audio to be out of sync (for MOBILE encoding only) in rare cases where a PGC's cells are not played back in the same order they are stored. It has been fixed for DVD-RB v1.20.5, soon to be released.

Thanks jdobbs. Seems safer to just use the DGDecode that comes with DVD-RB Pro. For the small amount of time saved by faster processing, it doesn't seem to be worth the hassle using the NaN version.
