can anyone help..i have been using tmpeg for the last 2 years and no problems at all, but today i removed my cpu to try something on another pc..but after re-inserting my cpu tmpeg locks up 30 seconds into encoding.
im assuming the cpu removal has upset something..or am i wrong.

could anyone give my any ideas as to what i could try.

by the way i tryed dvd santa instead and that ended with the same problem.

Thanks.

Maybe it's a coincidence. Have you tried with different source material? Does it now happen with material that used to work?

I'd say it sounds like a classic case of heat-related hardware failure. When you removed it, did you scrape off every bit of heatsink compound from the cpu and heatsink, including going over the top with a fine steel wool? Did you add a very thin layer of new compound when replacing it? Did you verify that the fans are working correcting and attached properly after restarting? Did you verify that the cpu is working at the correct speed? (Certain jumpers or bios settings can overclock the system.) All of those are standard procedure and very important to ensure stability.

well when i re-inserted the cpu the pc started beeping but then stopped.
and in relation to your question..no i didn't scrape everything off the cpu there didn't seem to be anything on it to be honest..when i re-inserted it i re applyed some compound.
the fans are working fine..
i wouldn't know how to tell what the correct working speed of the cpu would be..how do i find out?
i haven't touched any jumpers or bios settings.
