avi to dvd???

I have recently recovered some avi backups from my xp box's HD which crapped out. I had been dual booting for some time now and felt comfortable enough to not purchase a windows install. However i wuold really like to burn these salvaged avi's. When trying to do so with K3b this is the debugging report I get afterward---System

I have tried to burn them to iso and use dvd shrink to burn them but that won't work either. Runnin athalon xp 2200+ 256mb ram pclinuxos .93... Any help is greatly appreciated

Seems like you are trying to burn them as DVD-Video. That will not work unless you convert the video to MPEG-2 and author a DVD-Video image with dvdauthor (or some frontend for it).

Instead, you can just burn the AVI files as a normal data DVD and there should be no problems with newer standalone players.

tried to convert to mpeg-2 with no luck dvd author froze my system twice when it got to retriving the vobs. I already tried toburn them as a data dvd and neither of my dvd players will play them. Any other suggestions??

There are probably some GUI frontends that convert the video automatically, but you can do it manually by following this guide:

Thanks guys I found a front end call mkdvd. It is extermely easy to use and will create a ready to burn iso which plays fine on dvd players. One other problem, how do you shrink an avi file?? What apps do that? Mkdvd doesn't have the ability to split files in two to burn two disks?? At least not as I can see..

AVIDemux is like VirtualDub for Linux. It can reencode also AVIs to MPEG2 ...
