Is there a difference in the quality between the two types?
I have been using general purpose and been getting good results minus the the breif pauses on a few disks I've done. (Maybe caused by any number of issues.)
Merry Christmas All.

yes, the lasers of a general purpose vs authoring dvd burner use 2 differant light intensities....the authoring uses 635 while the general purpose uses 660 i believe..i'm not sure what the total differance is though...

Authoring only works (writes) on Authoring drives and General Purpose only on General Purpose drives. The Authoring media has an extra track to write information needed for duplication (it's the master source).
I get slight pauses or pixelation sometimes but so far (knock wood) only on my Panasonic player. Works great on my pc and my other stand alone. What brand of media are you using?

I'm using the general purpose DVD's from the http://www.cd-recordable.com/. I've got a Panasonic LF D311 RAM/DV-R drive. I have had good results so far with 5 perfect movies and 3 with brief pixelation in them.
I just wanted to make sure I was getting the best results that I can with my set-up.

I have an Apex 600AD. Got it real cheap a year ago. It plays anything I have ever thrown in it e.g. cheap cd-r's, cr-/rw and those $2.95 DVD-r's. Also never have had any problems with playing the X-Men or The Patriot like some other players do.

Hi,
Is General Purpose DVD-R will be accepted at dvd replication factory. Because I heard that Authoring DVD-r is used as master for replication purpose. Can I use General DVDr as master for replication.
Thanks in advance.
