Has anyone encoded a movie to PSP output format? I don't see anything posted here about how to accomplish this. The only reference is in the version note and that is a bit light. It does say "iPod' but alludes to the "large spectrum of other possible
video/audio formats" which would likely cover PSP.
December 2nd, 2006 (v1.20.4)
CHANGES MADE TO PRO VERSION
- Added support for writing several new output formats.
Generally for MOBILE encoding (such as iPod), DVD-RB can
now output MP4, AVI, and other video and audio formats.
A new "MOBILE (iPod) Output" option can now be set under
the "Mode" menu. Currently DVD-RB Pro uses FFMPEG
(included in the installer) to create the output using
XviD, H264, and a large spectrum of other possible
video/audio formats (via FFMPEG). FFMPEG is a fast and
powerful video format encoder that is provided under the
GNU Public License Agreement. Read the file "License.txt"
for more information. Support for other encoders may be
included in future versions. (v1.20.0)

It can certainly do PSP encoding. I don't have a PSP for testing, so I didn't want to create and include a PRESET without somehow ensuring it worked properly. Hopefully someone else has already done some and could post the settings.
The PSP should accept MPEG4 or XVID -- so it may be possible you could use the one of the iPod presets. You could adjust the parameters by double clicking on the PRESET, modifying the parameters, and saving to a new "PSP" PRESET.
If you look at the MOBILE.INI file in the "TEMPLATE" directory, you can also see that the PRESETs are simply stored as text in the file.

there is a lot of talk about encoding for the PSP in the mpeg-4 sections

I was hoping there were other pioneers who had already blazed a clear path to encoding to PSP via RB but it looks like there may not be many who have gone this route.
First problem - I created a custom mobile profile and used it on a short clip that I created (single chapter preprocessed via CLONEDVD). In Mobile mode, the Force encode option does not work which makes testing a lot harder.
Second thing -When a previously created custom profile is selected you do not see the parameters values as it does not go to that screen. Would be very nice to check the values for the profiles.
Third - I'm doing a lot of reading but still a bit unclear about the specific output specs that are acceptable to PSP. I have read many places state the video does not utilize the full screen with the default player and options. The two basic supported formats appear to be MP4 SP and MP4 AVC (H.264) but in 320x240 format. There are reference to a PMP format supported by 3rd party player that supports the full 480x272 display.
When Santa brings the PSP to my kid, I'll have a chance to run some real test clips on the unit to see what really works. Meanwhile, I found a couple of other DVD-PSP specific tools that I am using to learn the various PS specific encoding possibilities.

the psp supports 368x208 for ws movies and the psp will zoom this in to fill the screen.
while 480 support of course would be a big bonus, the 368 option is fine, albeit with the weird blurring problem that can arise.

What I gather is there is a 76,800 pixel limit for displaying movies. 368x208 = 76,554 is just under the limit - 320x240 (4x3) = 76,800.
There is a program called PMPMOD that runs on the PSP that plays movies at the full 480x272 display. XviD4PSP creates the movies at this resolution. I am now exploring to see if RB can create a movie with specs that are acceptable to PMPMOD. It encodes x264 and also handles AVISYNTH filters.
I'd rather use less tools than more and it seems RB is moving toward support of mobile video capable devices but unless it supports > 76.800 pixels, it's a no go for me. Given the screen is already quite small, it is a total shame to not use the full 480x272 display.

if anyone cares to look i did give a text file with some basic Ipod and PSP settings(mpeg4 part 2 only since QuEnc doesnt output H264, H264 settings are more limited eg. bitrate etc).
jdobbs, i thought i gave you links to a fuller list of settings for both when we discussed this before ?

the size of the screen and the resolution dont really come into it. 368x208 is automatically zoomed upto fill the screen and while I dont normally approve of any kind of zooming, you will not notice any issues on the PSP screen, except the dark spot blurring.
I personally sat and watched about 3 movies on a plane on the table on the chair in front, the screen size never was an issue :)

well it was something like six months ago now. :)
unfortunately i didnt keep the links. i had a quick search but didnt find satisfactory ones. will look more extensively later, after new years probably.

The capability to play full size video 480x272 on the PSP requires the PSP firmware be downgraded to v1.5 which allows homebrew apps such as the video player that plays the full size videos off the memory stick. AFter a lot of research, I discovered that the PSP I just bought is v2.81 which has no downgrade path as yet, so I am stuck with having to encode to the lower standard then zooming in to fill the screen. I don't care to resort to a zoom feature but it appears the only way in my situation for the interim.

Yet being the right word. There's a donwgrade path from 2.8 already. I guess it won't take long to donwgrade from 2.81. Just don't upgrade.
But the problem with PSP is that no one is going to have full video quality with a stock PSP. It will need an homebrew video player to do it. On a modified PSP (firmware downgrade or modchip, not out of the box). And Sony (remember DRM) will try what it can to keep it from working.....
Another reason to wait for a real video iPod, I guess

have you tried a 368x208 encode yet? I dont know anyone whose had a problem with the "zoom" and im someone whose never used zoom features on tv etc. as i hate them.

@deets - I have no trouble getting the PSP play and zoom in on videos adhering to the standard limit of 76,800 pixels. One was PS at 320x240 and WS at 368x208. The real issue is we RB fans tend to be sticklers for video quality, so it's natural to pursue a full quality encode at native 480x270 for PSP playback. I see quite a bit of degradation from the 368xx208 to 470x270 zooming so am quite motivated to get that working.
As I am having trouble with RB doing the mobile output, I found xvid4psp does a pretty good job for the time being. It's a dead issue for me with fw v2.81 as I must wait until a v1.5 fw downgrade path becomes available so I can play a full res video on it anyway.
I figured there would be more folks using RB and PSPs but it seems to be a small crowd, maybe more doing RB and iPod.

What kinds of problems are you having? I've found some issues and have corrected them for the next release. Got a little distracted with the holidays, though, and got behind -- as I meant to release v1.20.5 last week.
[Edit] Never mind the question... We just discussed the DLL problem you're having earlier today. I guess the old brain isn't hitting on all cylinders this evening.
