I think the subject says it all, however we are currently using Scenarist 3 and have seen some screen caps of Scenarist 4 and when you create a new project the only DVD type supported is "HD DVD-Video". Standard DVD does not seem to be supported. Is this the case? The version I believe I saw was Scenarist 4.0.1 Standard Content Authoring edition or something like that.
Thanks.

From user guide:
About HD DVD Standard Content
HD DVD is a next-generation 15 GB optical disc format (30 GB for dual layers). A core component of HD DVD is Standard Content, which is an extension to the highly successful DVD-Video format.
HD DVD Standard Content supports:
• High-definition video (MPEG-2 MP@HL, VC-1, and AVC) with resolutions up to 1920 x 1080
• High-definition surround audio
• 8-bit subpictures
• Expanded number of project elements, including titles, navigation commands, menu buttons, GPRMs, and streams for menus and First Play
• Expanded navigation capability when linking to titles and menus in other domains
Note: Another important HD DVD component is Advanced Content, which provides a level of interactivity beyond Standard Content. Scenarist Standard Content does not support authoring Advanced Content. To author Advanced Content, you can use Sonic Scenarist Advanced Content.
Note:
Currently, Scenarist Standard Content only supports authoring HD DVD titles. This user guide primarily documents working with and creating HD scenarios, though it often points out the differences between authoring standarddefinition (SD) and high-definition (HD) scenarios. As a reference for those familiar with standard-definition authoring, the fundamental differences between SD and HD scenarios are documented in Appendix B, “SD vs. HD scenarios.”

Thanks for the info. Looks like I can't upgrade to version 4 and expect to author standard definition media. Kind of odd that they wouldn't have a version that people could upgrade to without being backwards compatible but oh well. Wasn't aware HD was that prevelant at this point to make that move.
Questions:
If I took my current 720x480 SD media and put it into a HD project could standard DVD's play them still?
Is the AC-3 audio in HD the same as the ones used in my SD projects I'm creating today (192kbps 2-channel or 448kbps 5.1 channel)? I was told that Scenarist 4 will complain about AC-3 files that worked in Scenarist 3, being rejected in 4.
Thanks.

u can use SD in an HD-DVD, but, the output will be an compatible HD-DVD structure. only HD-DVD players will run it.

from guide also, it shows 100% compatible with dvd specs,
- Dolby Digital, up to 5.1 CH, 48khz , 64-448 kbps.
it also has the same looking/engine of ac3 encoder found in v3.
BUT, if it have some problem in this area, is another story.. ;)

Not to bring up an old thread, however is there still no ability to author standard definition DVD's (non HD/Blueray) in Scenarist 4? My Scenarist 3 is running to end of license and waiting to hear back from Sonic if it can still be re-licensed, if I can now successfully upgrade, or if I have to move onto another product.
Thanks.

Hmmmm
I'm surprised you tell Sonic your interested in giving them $40,000 and they don't call back? If you own a Scenarist License for v3, it's not supposed to expire.

That's what I thought, however it is indeed saying it will expire. Not that I can't set the clock back, however try to be legitimate at my company.
