View Full Version : MPC can use DXVA?

I'm wondering why WMP has DXVA (DirectX Video Acceleration) option, but MPC doesn't. TheaterTek is another player that has DXVA. The fact is that if I enable 'WMV Acceleration' (inside ATI driver), only WMP 10 and TheaterTek can really boost the performance. I'm using the WMP 10 default codecs. And doesn't matter the render: overlay, VMR7, VRM9, renderless, windowed...
BTW, is there anyone here that can enable 'WMV Acceleration' (inside ATI driver) and run this video (http://download.nvidia.com/downloads/nZone/videos/PureVideo_1080p.wmv) with WMP 11 (DXVA ticked, of course)? Here I get GPF, and can play only if I disable DXVA or 'WMV Acceleration'. I get the same error if I install WMP 10 (DRM and DXVA patched) with WMP 11 codecs. :(

ATi's WMV acceleration is broken. Do not use it.

on my mobility radeon 9700 with catalyst 6.11 and wmp11, hardware acceleration works flawlessly. You need zambelli's WMV9 PowerToy. In decoder tab you must enable "DXVA WMV Support" and "DXVA WMV Logging" options.
by this means both MPC and WMP11 use hardware acceleration.

It simply means you have not yet run into samples that will break.
You don't need zambelli's PowerToy at all. (unless you want to use it to disable video postprocessing, that's enabled by default)
DXVA WMV Support is enabled by default. You don't need logging enabled, either. (what does logging have to do with playback ?)
Acceleration in DirectShow based players is available after installing WMP11. Acceleration in Windows Media based players (like WMP) is avaliable since a certain Windows patch for WMP10.

Really odd. I can use 'WMV Acceleration' with WMP 10. Runs good. When install WMP 11 the GPF begins.
Do you know if ATI has something to say about it?

Listen, I do not work for neither ATi, nor for Microsoft so I don't know any details and I'm not going to spread rumors.
I'm only telling you what I know (seen with my own eyes as happening), that wmv acceleration on ati boards will work for some files and will not work for others. That's all. From here on, it's your choice to make.
