I'm accessing a computer through remote desktop to and from a Windows XP computer.
I can open and play a Xvid file in Media Player Classic from the remote desktop. But when I try to open a Xvid file in a screenshot taking program called "image grabber II" using the remote desktop I get "Class Not Registered" error.
There is also a version of the program using the .NET framework and when I do the same thing in that program I get this error: "Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID {51B4ABD3-748F-4E3B-A276-C828330E926A} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: 80040273"
Both versions of Image Grabber can be downloaded here (http://bmtorrents.net/downloads/)
If I don't use remote desktop I can open the same file in both Image Grabber versions!
EDIT: Change the download link to a working one (http://bmtorrents.net/downloads/)

Firstly, the download link for Image Grabber II.NET doesn't work.
Now, onto your issues - For the "Class Not Registered" error, maybe the Microsoft DirectShow Runtime isn't registered properly. Try doing a 'regsvr32 quartz.dll' from the Run prompt. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling DirectX. If that doesn't work either, uninstall and reinstall the latest build of XviD or ffdshow.
The second one is trickier. Maybe it will go away if the first one is fixed, but if not, check to see if HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ole\EnableDCOM is set to 'Y' in your registry. I can't think of anything else at the moment for this. The error essentially means that the COM component creation has failed due to some reason. Do other .NET apps work on this PC through RDP?
I tried Image Grabber II (the download link for this one worked), but I couldn't see what advantage it has over MPC itself for taking screenshots? I mean, why would you be even using this?

Thanks unskinnyboy for putting some thought into this!
I googled a bit and found a working download link for all the image grabbers. You can find them here (http://bmtorrents.net/downloads/)
I did try doing "regsvr32 quartz.dll" but it didn't help. I'm not sure if I dare un- and reinstalling directx on the remote computer. It's located on the other side of the country and I don't want to loose access to it.. I have tried re-installing Xvid, ffdshow and CCCP-project but nothing worked.
I checked the registry and EnableDCOM was set to Y.
I'd like to once again point out that I can open Xvids fine in both imagegrabber versions when not using Windows Remote Desktop which seams really strange to me?
The reason I want to use image grabber rather than MPC is that I can set it to make XX number of imagegrabs of a file and have it save them individually to a folder. Can mpc do that? If so I'm set!

What if you use "mstsc /console" to access the machine?
I have never fully sorted out DSS issues on remote systems, so I don't really use it anymore. When I did, I always had to make a custom graph, or it would very angrily tell me I had no renderer, no audio hardware, wrong colorspace (had to be DIB), wouldn't use ffdshow or kept adding a color converter to DIB after ffdshow, etc.

The reason I want to use image grabber rather than MPC is that I can set it to make XX number of imagegrabs of a file and have it save them individually to a folder. Can mpc do that? If so I'm set!Yes. You don't directly say the number of thumbnails you want, but you adjust the number of rows & columns you want, plus the width of the resultant montage to get what you exactly want. In fact, MPC offers you more control over the layout of the montage too.
For e.g., if you want to get 10 thumbnails, File -> Save Thumbnails..., and you either specify 2 rows & 5 columns or 5 columns & 2 rows, both will give you 10 thumbnails (5x2). Just the size of the thumbnails & the layout will differ depending on the width you set. Actually, it is pretty intuitive, try it.
