I pretty much used default options only changing the bitrage from 224 to 384 as is recommended for 5.1 but I then compared both audios and the wav sounds louder then the ac3 I didn't try to listen for other variances... Also the ac3 file is smaller in size...
Do you know more optimized settings I can do to have closer quality playback? Also powerdvd doesn't keep good track of timming for the ac3... :(

So you managed to save your audio to WAV in the meantime?
(see http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=119265 )
As the topic is no longer DV, you'll probably get better help in the "Audio encoding" forum.
Thread moved.

Every time you reencode you lose quality then the 384 output is always poor than the 224 source.

The free ac3 encoder supplied with Ac3Machine-BeSweet is ac3enc.dll, is know this, and other free encoders prior 2006-04, make a output with half volume than input and don't support parameters like DialogNorm and DynamicRangeCompression important for the play volume.
But now you speak of wav, if you have the wav source must be used instead a previous 224 Kb/s ac3 encoding. Please specify your source.
Also the ac3 file is smaller in size...
This is impossible, the 384 Kb/s must be 1.7 greater than the 224.

Actually the best free ac3 encoder is Aften and can be used with BeSweet in the last BeLight version. See this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=118758) for links and a similar problem.

Sorry the 224 was a default option in AC3Machine has nothing to do with the WAV... and AC3Machine is recommended by Doom9 Updated on Jan15 2006 so is brand new information... And what about besweet - Aften is that a GUI? And why you mix it with Belight which is a different GUI no entiendo...

BeLight is a different GUI for BeSweet adapted to use the new encoders Aften for ac3, NeroAacEnc or CT for aac, and of course the last versions of lame and oggenc.
Ac3 and AacMachine don't support these encoders, news than Jan-2006, and can't be recommended now. The ac3 volume problem is solved by commercial ac3 encoders or with the free Aften.
The Aften encoder can be used in command line or with AftenGUI if the input is a wav file.
If the input is a encoded format and/or you need some audio conversion (samplerate, timestretch, downmix, upmix, ...) you can use Aften with BeLight-BeSweet, Foobar2000 or BeHappy-AviSynth.
¿Queda mas claro?
