Hi there,
I was wondering. I own a few 1080p avi with wmv and ac3, made from HDTV capture. When an authoring program that handle VC-1 and AVC reaches me, will i be able to use the very save wmv stream and make an HD-DVD on dl dvd out of it ?
Thx.

i am gonna try out cyberlink powerproducer 4. it mentions avc and im hoping it takes it naturally instead of converting to mpeg2 before burning. will report.
re your question. it depends if it is vc-1 compliant. wmv3 (wmv9 simple and main profiles) and wvc1 (wmv9 advance profile) streams are vc-1 compliant. wmva is not. here is a good thread for info http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=119078 its for playback on xbox but touches on hddvd compliancy and m$ article http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/events/NAB2005/VC-1.aspx#VC1_Profiles_and_Levels

Did you test powerproducer? Can you make a DVD5/9 HD-DVD compliant with AVC or VC1?

being vc-1 compliant alone is not enough, which means your wmv stream will most likely not be hddvd compliant
you also need to take care of vbv, gop size aso...

Bond,
Thank you. I know that ULEAD MovieMaker supports HD-DVD formated DVD5/9 with MPEG2 only. It would be ideal if a consumer authoring program would "convert" to AVC or VC1 and author (ala MPEG2 nero etc).
However, I thought, with the Powertoy from MS, that if you modify the registry for teh VC1 AP compliant streams those SHOULD be able to be authored with HD-DVD software. The problem is that only professional ones author these as of now.
