Back when I was encoding with DivX and XviD and the avi container format, I would use abcAVI tag editor to write useful meta data to my encode files. Now that I'm using x.264 and MPEG-4 AVC container format, I was wondering if there is any comparable software tagger out there that could help me tag my files? :thanks:

Thanks a lot for that link. I searched these forums first, but obviously not thorough enough. So I guess the consensus right now is that iTunes or the tg utility are the best methods for tagging MP4 files right now? Pitty, I was hoping for something more extensive. Why can't ID3v2 tags or something equivalent be used for MP4? Seems like we took a step backwards.

Argh! I missed this post! I'd suggest AtomicParsley it can set all the crap that Apple created in these years for its M4A/M4P format.
And it supports 3GPP assets too. It has also just added initial support for the ID32 box a box that contain a frame conformant to ID3 specs (yep the one used with mp3 files, it supports all their metadata, but the problem is that no software can read it right now and QT freeze when it opens them.... and Apple created this metada format:http://www.mp4ra.org/specs.html#id3v2
Atomic Parsley webpage (http://atomicparsley.sourceforge.net/) (in the forum you can find fresh build of the last svn).
EDIT: Now that I'm using x.264 and MPEG-4 AVC container format
It's MP4 file format, it's not MPEG-4 AVC container format, probably.
The AVC file format exist (MPEG-4 Part 15) but it has its own ftyp (avc1) its own file extension (I've read so, but I haven't ever understood what file extension is.... .avc?) and it cannot be used as major brand if it's used with other tracks (like MPEG-4 AAC). It's not even obligatory to set it as compatible brand if AVC video is present (but I set it XD).
