Does MeGUI's DVD5 bitrate selection use -R or +R size for calculation? I have found the odd DVD5 encode that is oversized and will not fit on a DVD+R which loses about 3 megs compared to -R. However sometimes muxing to MKV (If it was AVI in the first place) can save that 3 megs enough to fit it on +R

i think -R.

Thought so. I think really it should base it on +R. The loss of 3mb would be no great deal and ensure it fits on both media.

if you are a mb or so oversize and the file doesn't have subtitles, you can use --engage-simpleblock in mkvmerge to squeeze it down a little further.
