Capturing Enquiry

Are there any guides that I don't know of to learn how to capture TV/VHS as well what do I need on my comp as far as hardware goes to do this. Cuz it would be almost as useful as the DVD encoding if I could do this to TV/VHS.

Now seriously: a very good capturing guide is "Luke's Video Guide" on http://www.geocities.com/lukesvideo/ . Although he's referring to capturing cartoons, most techniques are the same for "real life" material.
