View Full Version : Freeware/How-To create single video Titles/Seamless Branching?

Not sure if this is in the right thread or not, and did a forum search but couldn't find any pre-existing answer to my question, so:
Is there any freeware to create seamless branching/a single video title when reauthoring? I did a websearch and found something called DVD2One (I think that was the name), but am still not sure if that's what I am looking for.
My situtation is this: Whenever I reauthor in DVD Shrink to, for example, edit out commercials from something I've recorded, each edited section from between the now-removed commercials ends up as an individually-numbered "title" (video segment, or VOB). The end result is that....when playing back the final DVD backup...is a momentary freeze-frame while the player goes to the next video title/segment of the program I recorded. One of my players seems to do this a little faster than my other player, but there's always a momentary freeze on the last frame of the previous title while it goes to the next.
Basically: I would like to find a (hopefully) freeware program to allow me to join all the titles/segments of something I've reauthored into a single video "title" for the final backup disc, to avoid this "freeze-framing" I am getting now (which is not that bad when there's a fade-out at the end of a segment/title).
HOW do I get this done....and relatively easily...with a simple program? Is the aforementioned DVD2One a suitable program (which seems to be one which has to be purchased), or is there another freeware program that can be gotten?
(I am actually surprised that DVD Shrink doesn't have such a "join" function/feature)
Thanks! ;)

Is the aforementioned DVD2One a suitable programYes, it is (using the "Join" function) but, as you've already noted, it's not freeware...

Okay, but is there a freeware to do the same thing?

Hmmm...Thanks, interesting (and a lot of work it seems, but I do also have VOB Blanker), but I think that DVD2One program I mentioned before might be my best bet and an easier way to do what I'd like to.

Again, yes it is (using the "Join" function)...

Okay, but what I'm trying out now is the trial version of DVD2one, and I can't get this to work correctly for me....I am attempting to refer to the directions here at Doom9:
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvd2one.htm
...and the directions as well as the screen captures there simply don't match what I am seeing in DVD2one V2 trial mode. Can I get some help here, please?
I am testing this out (to see if it does what I need as well as seeing how well it works) on one reauthored DVD (such as I described in my original post) which I had reauthored in DVD Shrink to remove commercials. I already have the disc decrypted to my drive, and I want to seamlessly join the individual titles into one title. I've tried this out with DVD2one a couple of times, and the first time I somehow selected the largest/longest title on the disc twice, and after I finished saving this test as an ISO image file, I opened it in DVD Shrink and it was indeed joined together as a single title....
....now how can I get this to work correctly to join ALL the titles on this disc into one title?
...and Thanks for your attention and help so far on this, btw. :thanks:

Hmm....Okay, I'll give it a try, but it's strange I need to decrypt twice to two different folders. DVD2one won't do this from a single folder I've decrypted to? I also gather that I need to go back and forth to gather all the clips/titles...meaning, I start with the first folder, then the second, then back to the first, etc...?
Also, with DVD2one V2 trial, I see nothing which allows me to set it to "seamless" and "advanced navigation". :thanks:
Here's how the program is opening for me...First thing is:
http://members.aol.com/kriegerg69/webgraphics/dvd2onecap01.jpg
After clicking on Trial, I get:
http://members.aol.com/kriegerg69/webgraphics/dvd2onecap02.jpg
I then click "Make a movie-only copy or join multiple movie titles", and get:
http://members.aol.com/kriegerg69/webgraphics/dvd2onecap03.jpg
After selecting the folder/directory, I now have:

Now what? I see nothing else for selecting seamless or advanced navigation.

First of all, at the DVD2One website, it's stated that the trial version is limited to two hours regarding the "Join" function.
For further information on how to use DVD2One, simply read the online manual available at the DVD2One website at:

Yes, I understand the two hours limitation (and I assume that means, as it says "The movie-only and join mode are limited to a total of 2 hours" on their site, that I am limited to a total time of two hours for an entire movie length), and I saw that "manual" page, but that doesn't really explain much. :scared:
When I get to the window as seen in the fourth image I posted above, Title 10....the last title for this recording...is already automatically selected. If I click the double-plus button as seen there (the two plus signs side-by-side) to choose "add a seamless title", no matter if I choose the first directory I decrypted to or the second one containing the same files, it always selects the last title (Title 10). Although I can manually change the selection in either, either changing the automatically-selected Title 10 to Title 1, that seems to affect the Seamless Title selection.
HELP!

As I described above, when I click on "Make a movie-only copy or join multiple movie titles", on this window:
http://members.aol.com/kriegerg69/webgraphics/dvd2onecap02.jpg
And I've selected the DVD files from the directory I've decrypted them to, opening them up in the program, this is what ALWAYS turns up when I click on the Title selection in the left window:
http://members.aol.com/kriegerg69/webgraphics/dvd2onecap05.jpg
It ALWAYS selects Title 10 (the last segment) for some reason. when I originally reauthored this in DVD Shrink to edit out the commercials, for some reason Shrink chose Title 10 and Title 2 as part of the "Main Movie"....all the other titles for this project were relegated to being "Extras".
No matter what I do with DVD2one, I can't get it to work correctly to select everything else in its proper order to create a seamless Join for the entire video.

Here's a way to do it all in freeware, but probably not so simple to use as your Dvd2One
Uses Dvd Shrink in re-author mode(of course), VobEdit, IfoEdit, and optionally ChapterEdit to revise chapter points.
No menu when you're all done, tho.
