sjchmura you have stolen my words i agree that HQ slow does give better picture. I have a question since i am a starter in MeGui and x264 when i use the HQ slow is it automatically set to give me an output to 720p, or are there any other special settings i have to do in order to gain such quality. Also what is a good file size to output for a 720p which by the way is <10min's

Profiles (ie: HQ slow) do not resize.
Whatever resolution you give to x264, is the resolution that x264 will output.
If you want 720p, your source file needs to be 720p or you need to resize to 720p.
Resizing from 480p or 576p to 720p will only waste your time.

okay i got one more question. today i put all the x264 encoded files that where .mp4 on my MCE 05. But when i went to my media center they weren't recognized. So my guess was because it was .mp4. So i just rename the .mp4 to .avi. To my surprise it worked. Is that going to affect the video any how??

You want Haali's splitter.

I'm not sure how media centre works, but if it's like wmp you can tell it to try and play the mp4 file. Provided you have the correct filters installed it will work fine.
Do Not rename the extensions.

There's a post here : http://ac3filter.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=285&sid=7495b5bb303123b94c2e3d353bc984b4
that has a list of registry entries you could try.

it wont play. mp4 is not avi... they're completely different.

It "shouldn't" play at all. As Sharktooth stated there completely different containers.
edit: I still recommend you do not rename extensions even based on the fact that you have before and it appeared to work.

If you have Haali's splitter, it'll work just because that one knows all these different formats and can work in spite of the user's foolishness.
