I am very serious about keeping all of my DVD's in pristine condition. (after all we're in the digital age, why can't I have them forever?)

I recently learned about this site and have started backing up all of my DVD's to a DivX file (for the media center) and to a DVD for use in the DVD player. I DO NOT SHARE or even let friends borrow my copies, I simply use them in LIEU of the originals in the hopes that I will be able to keep them forever.

THE QUESTION:

I often come across a DVD that will not be copied no matter what program I use. (DVD Decrypter DVDFab or even the new ImgBURN) Everyone has told me that a DVD is a DVD is a DVD simply because the standard requires that all new DVD's be compatible with older DVD Players and whatnot. So all DVD's are pretty much the same, why can't I copy all of them?

What I've done:
I've goofed around with settings, changing stuff like "ignore read errors" etc.
I've tried cleaning the cd's (even though most are new)
I've tried getting a new DVD Writer
I've tried SEARCHING THIS FORUM FOR DAYS LOL

I'm thinking there is a trick out there, or a technology that I'm just not aware of because some of the movies I CAN'T copy are out there and other have.... Can anyone help me?

Encryption technology has moved on. You could search for ARccOS or Ripguard and find hundreds of threads.

Use RipIt4Me (http://www.ripit4me.org/) for decryption and you'll be OK. See guide on site.
