Hi guys, I have a few questions Smile

1) I'm trying to capture digital mpeg 2 signal from my satellite (Dishnet) to my card using RCA inputs (yellow/red/white cords) and WinTV2000. My capture card is a Hauppauge wintv pvr 150.

While using any recording format (usually Mpeg 2 - 12bit) I get a black bar down the left side of the screen, and some noise along the top of the screen. How can I fix this? I will attach a screenshot below. I was told this is overscan, but I see many people capture files for an event and then post it to the forum immediately after the event is finished and there is no bars that look like this on their caps!

2) When using Ulead VideoStudio 10 to capture, I cannot get sound to capture, only video. When I go into settings, I see only an option for mic/line in for the sound, and no option to use the WinTV's RCA jacks for sound in. How can this be fixed, as the line in rca sound jacks work with the other software.

Thanks guys!

1) You have to crop the noise out.

Some capture software has a setting that you can enable that will crop and adjust the picture on the fly. My ATI software has such a setting. I don't know about your card or software. Look in the advanced settings.

You could use AviSynth to crop (then resize or AddBorder) if plan to re-encode. You could also capture with VirtualDub and add the crop filter.

At what resolution are you capturing? What's the maximum hardware resolution for your card? Generally, you should always capture (regardless of the source) at the highest hardware resolution supported by your card.

If that card has WDM drivers (which it should) then try it out with VirtualVCR capturing in lossless mode (using a codec like HuffYUV) or in VirtualDub using the same.

Assuming that extra wide black bar isn't being caused by your STB having timing issues, are you using the latest driver for the PVR150?

You can get a copy of the driver from here (ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/wintv-pvr_150-500/prerelease/pvr_2.0.43.24108_prerelease.zip)

Its pre-release so use it at your own risk.
