When first starting any video in VLC or MPC it is completely saturated in extra red. If I pause this run and start a second instance of a player the extra red is gone. Everything looks great as long as the second player is going. What could be the problem here, I am stumped and can't search anything on this, help please

Video drivers. Try updating.

I had the most recent Nvidia forceware 93.71 drivers. So I uninstalled and installed again, with the same conclusion. Any other further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You trust nvidia drivers too much. Who said they are guaranteed to work well ?

Although it can be something else that's wrong, too.

Ya there is no doubt it is the video overlay. The second instance of VLC or MPC seems to take on the desktop overlay settings. VMR9 rendlerless DShow output in MPC seems to skip any tomfoolery which leaves me happy.

You might have messed up the overlay settings (boosting the gamma or brightness on the red channel).

You have an nvidea card you don't need to use overlay, it looks like crap. Use wmr9 or haali. My Dell pc is 3 years old but I have the 7900 GT 512 MB ram card. The card is maxed out in favor of video with everything turned up. For playback I run in "3d" render mode with bicubic resizer. I can still run 7 videos at once, (or 4 H.264 or two bloated wmv9. I can bypass all wmv DMO's (and believe me that's what you wanna do, but wmv9 = it drags the pc down to a crawl)

Now the red issue - admit it, you're addicted to digital vibrance? Haha turn that down. That's like crack cocaine to us.
