I'm putting this in the DVD-RB forum since its the only program I use. So hopefully I can get some good opinions from other DVD-RB users.

Anyway, I have a fairly old computer that I have upgraded over the years. Athlon XP 1.7 GHZ processor, 1 gig of RAM, and 4 big hard drives. It currently takes me around 6+ hours to encode a 3 hour disc with DVD-RB and CCE. Sometimes I use HC and it takes a bit longer.

So, I've been looking to buy a new computer with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2 gig of ram. For those of you who have a similar pc, what kind of speeds are you getting? Will I actually see a huge speed increase? If not, I'm not going to spend the money. Thanks for you opinions.

HC can not use two cores, so you still be doing a movie in 3to4 hours.

CCE can, and a movie at the new core duo with 2gig ram will be completed in 1,5 to two hours I suppose.

I am working at an Athlon 3200+ with 1gig ram and I complete my rebuilds with HC in 4hours.

If you're using DVD-RB Pro you will get use of both cores using HC Encoder. All you have to do is select "Multiple Encoder Processes" from the "Settings" menu.

A lot depends on your hard drive and whether its fragmented. I do two pass encodes with CCE on my Athlon XP 3200+ -- and I finish in anywhere from 2 to 2.5 hours on typical discs.

You'll see a very large increase in speed, and it depends on the clock/memory used... but my guess is that you'll be down around 1-2 hours for an HC encode and 1 hour for CCE.

Yep, I'm on the pro version. Thanks for the input. I figured I would see a pretty huge speed increase from my lowly Athlon XP 2100+.

I have a AMD X2 4200+ and for a movie and menu only about an hour. Did a full disc with 2 angles (widescreen/fullscreen) on the same disc in 109 min which is the equivalent of doing 2 discs. If it were any faster I would get bored sitting around with nothing to do. Great part is still have cpu left for other jobs while it's running CCE Basic. I personally am partial to AMD over Intel but I really believe the Key is the dual core whichever you choose and you don't necessarilly have to spend big bucks to get a fast system, I could have spent another 500.00 and only got about a 2% speed increase.

I have an E6600 core 2 duo with 2 gig of ram. Using CCE Basic 2 passes and doing a full backup, it takes me 95 minutes to copy an 8 gig dvd9 to a dvd5.
