I’m trying to get an idea of interactive reaction times with dvd’s.
Here’s a hypothetical situation. Say you have a cell with one single vobu of .4 seconds long (12 frames NTSC). It has a cell still time of 255. There are no pre/post or cell commands. But there is a button command that links the cell to another similar cell. (Cell still time of 255 is important here because I’ve noticed if you loop such a short cell with a single vobu, there is not enough “window space” to accept remote input- you have to press the button ten times quickly to activate button).
I am curious in the differences of the time to link to the new cell after the button has been pressed when the new cell is in the same pg or a different pg, ptt, pgc, title, vmg, vts. I’m particularly interested in the difference between cells in the same pgc versus cells in different pgcs.
Here’s a breakdown of different times needed to link:
a) time for the remote signal to make it to player
b) time to wait until the end of vobu (correct?). in current case, this would be at most .4 secs (if it has already reached the end of the vobu - would there still be a delay here?)
c) read time of tables
d) the movement of the laser
Some of these times depend on hardware. There are no hard answers. Going between vts’s seems obviously to be the slowest.
Any thoughts?
Steve
