Xvid with VBR mp3 to X264?

I used to encode all my stuff with AutoGK using Xvid codec and VBR mp3 in the AVI container. I switched to X264 using Staxrip a while back and want to re-encode some of my ealier stuff.
What container, settings etc... Would I use in Staxrip to accomplish this?
I tried using existing VBR mp3 file and output to AVI container but it gives an error "Muxer and Encoder are not compatible"
And of course Staxrip crashes if I try to output to mp4 container using existing VBR MP3 file.
If I try and leave the audio at AAC, it just ignores the audio all together.
Please help?

u should try, megui, but u have to re-encode the audio, apart.

I think I got it. I used Staxrip and opened a video file which demuxed the VBR mp3 file, then I used Nero File Enocder to create a CBR ACC file from it and then used that file as existing AAC HE file in staxrip and all came out fine.
