I have DVD Decrypter, DVD shrink and DVD Fab decrypter for ripping movies. What I would like to do is view a ripped movie off my HD and be able to change chapters. I have tried ripping a movie with all of these programs and changing setting and still can't get it to work. I'm starting to think its just not possible.
So my question is can I rip a DVD and change chapters while viewing on the computer?

Thanks

Hi!

If by "change chapters" you mean select a different chapter while playing the DVD "package" from your hard drive, sure you can. It's just a matter of knowing where the chapter and title controls are in the specific software player you are using...

I tried that already. I have three movies ripped to my HD and while I'm watching them through TheaterTek pressing the chapter change button nothing happens. If the DVD is in I can change chapters.

I'm not personally familiar with the "TheaterTek" software.

Have you ripped the FULL DVD "package" to your hard drive? If so, download and use the freeware program "VLC player".

(You should also be able to use Windows Media Player)

Ripit4me can rip with full movie, main movie only, or movie and menu. Clonedvd2 can transcode with full movie while retaining menu. Either one of these should do the trick.

I am only ripping the main movies, does that matter?

I'll give Ripit4me a try.

When you rip the main movie, it retains chapter points. The only things that can stop it advancing are Prohibited User Operations.

Rip by removing these (settings in DVD Decrypter).

So I went into all the options for file mode, iso and ifo and put a check in the box for removing ifo puo's and vob puo's. I ripped a movie in file mode and ifo mode with no file splitting and this didn't help.

Do you have IFOs or just VOBs?

Then that's your reason - you have no IFOs to tell you where your chapters are.

Rip again with RipIt4Me (http://www.ripit4me.org/) in movie only mode.

So I ripped it the way you mentioned and it worked. The only thing I don't really like is that it split them up into 1 gig file. I also went back after this rip and ripped another copy, but what I did was I ripped it in IFO mode and chose no file splitting. This method didn't give me what I wanted. So what I'm wondering is why it didn't work with that method?
The reason why I want to do this is because I'm interested in streaming the movies to my Xbox 360 with my Windows Media center 2005 pc. The way I look at it is, if it doesn't change chapters on my computer it won't be able to do it on my 360 right?

Tell you what you can do. Take your movie only rip from RipIt4Me and run it thru DVD Shrink. But untick the split VOBs preference as below:

You'll have chapters and one big VOB.
