DVD codecs please help

Hello i im returning to the site, just built a new system. I installed full nero 6 version with Vison digital recode blah blah blah and Directx 9.0c. Problem is, i cant play or burn DVD's. Neither showtime nor media player recognizes the discs & throw errors. I remember reading when XP first came out that it doesnt have DVD codecs. I think that could be the culprit. I was wondering which of the programs on this sites download lists includes the needed codec. Or if you know of a site that i can download a free Windvd or Powerdvd. I would love to search for the info myself, but im on an aircraft carrier in the middle of nowhere and internet sucks here. So i would like a one shot one kill download, please. thanks ahead !!!

2. PowerDVD and WinDVD are comercial products. To ask for free versions is against the rules. If you want a free media player get Media Player Classic.
