1st Pass not ecnoding any video

So whenever I do more than 1 Pass encoding with DivX or XviD I just get black video with audio. Usually the files will be about 1/2 the size they are supposed to be; I usually encode with higher MP3 bit rates though.

Any Ideas? I typically let my jobs go overnight, so I don't mind if it takes forever but the multi passes don't work!

Are you sure you're not setting the first pass to "1-pass" instead of "2-pass, 1st pass"?

yeah sorry for that incorrect information.

Actually the options I get are

1-pass Quality-Based
1-pass
Multipass, 1st pass
Multipass, nth pass
Multipass, 1st pass (fast)

If I do anything but 1-pass; all I get is black. I've never used 1-pass quality based

I reinstalled the DivX codec, and I'm using the latest version. Doesn't matter weather I use VirtualDub or my EasyDVDRip (DVD to AVI).

Any Ideas? Where could I find a log? I don't get any sort of errors.

if you select "multipass 1st pass" you will not get any video untill after you have done the "multipass N'th pass"

On the first pass it just creates a dummy file as it analyzes the video, the 2nd pass then uses the information gathered to improve the video and output the file

Okay so, Ist Pass-Multipass doesn't encode any video.

But when I encode Multi-pass nth pass it works well but I always get an "access violation" error
